"Visual Effects for Hollywood Blockbusters"

Allan McKay discusses recent work he has completed on various feature films, primarily his work on Priest (out May 13), The Last Airbender and various other recent projects. In addition to various case studies, McKay also gets onto more technical subjects primarily the creation of water and fire using the latest fluids solutions used in film for large scale effects. As well as creating FX tools and automate FX productions through maxscript and by building more automated workflows to shave days and weeks off of a production schedule and remove the human error factor. Some examples are generating max files with all effects already built and distributed without ever actually touching the files themselves through building situation tests and rigs. Packages discussed are 3D Studio Max, lightly touching on Maya's use within a pipeline, Realflow and additional tools such as Krakatoa, Fume FX, Rayfire and others. And if time permits, a bonus subject of compositing effects using nuke. |
